My recent body of work is themed around our relationship with the places and spaces that are either important to us or somehow stick in the memory and around how we recall scenes from our memory. I'm interested in how these memories are influenced, in how our recall of certain moments in places and spaces are moulded by our photographs of them particularly and how accessing these photographs changes the memory. I'm also interested in how as we document the land through drawing and photography, we are documenting ever changing traces of our intervention into the land be it inner-city of more rural places. Someone once said that all land is farmed land and I wonder how technology has influenced our memories especially over the last few years as we are staring into our phones more readily. Are our memories being farmed, changed, built, destroyed and shaped just as our land is? I am trying to draw the shapes of these memories.
